Gruesome Guardian Haunted Design House

I have always been fascinated by altered dolls- and Barbies in particular.  I just love how people can take a mass-produced item and then rework it to something truly unique and individual.

I picked up a barbie at a thrift store and decided to give it a go.  I am not sure I will be doing this very often, as the end result slightly disturbs me.  But I can't part with her either.  She is perched on top of my embellishment storage tower, guarding against all thievery and mis-use of the shiny trinkets.

This is barbie after I scrubbed her thoroughly, removed her face paint with nail polish remover, and washed and conditioned her hair.  I had to pose her with something for modesty.

Then I sanded her slightly with some sandpaper (yeah imagine that heh) and coated her with gesso- two coats.  I was mainly concerned with the face and hands/feet.

I then just went with inspiration and voila.  I used acrylic paint in her hair and chopped it.  I then used some black ribbon and made her a dress.   I added some beads and a scepter.   She is rather royal looking I think.

So I am entering her into Haunted Design House's Gruesome Guardian challenge- because she is the guardian of my embellies!

Yup, you can pretty much guarantee that your embellies are quite safe! What a wicked transformation! Very punk rock/goth/mod feel to her.

Very cool...I love your altered barbie. She is the ultimate embelly guardian. I altered a doll last October for the Zombie Walk and it was a blast.

WOW! FABULOUS! Love that transformation! Had to laugh about the posing with something for modesty and in the next pic she was doin' the splits pretty much buck nekkid. LOL I wouldn't dare go near your shiny bits now, though. Great creative take on the challenge. Thanks for joining us at HDH. xxD
