Hello! Around blog land we seem to be in the midst of a massive Christmas in July mood- and today at Anything But a Card we continue our fortnightly challenge with week 2 of Christmas in July- if you don't celebrate Christmas, feel free to join in with your creation for your holiday instead!
I kinda went crazy shopping for crafty supplies at the end of the holiday season last year, so I pulled out one of my many *to-do* projects and got started. I had all these ideas using the clear glass ornaments, but here in July, my mind kinda went blank. I relied on my old trusty alcohol inks though- and it does look nice if I say so myself!
I washed the ornament before hand, then wiped it down with regular rubbing alcohol. I think I read that somewhere...but if not, it seemed like a good idea. Let's just pretend that's the offical prep-step!
I was going to go with a light aqua blue theme, but ....it failed. BIG TIME. The neat thing about alcohol inks, is you can start over - just clean your project with blending solution and begin again. By the way, alcohol ink stains your fingers...for a long, long time. I went to work with blue finger tips on Monday, and kept explaining to people that no, I didn't forget to wash my hands, but that I had been crafting. I don't think they cared, but I felt better clearing that up.
See here I started with a mix and then ended up with just shell pink and pearl mixative. Excuse the scribblies.
looks sorta like a map or soemething... mid-process.
There was no method I used...other than dripping and dabbing with a piece of felt here and there...and I used a lot of the Pearl Mixative.....way more than you would use on non-glass items. Once I felt it was good and covered, I went over it with a fine mist of blending solution in a mini-mister. Yes, YOU SHOULD NEVER SPRAY this. I know, I know. But I did just a bit then went out side on the balcony to recover. DON'T DO THIS!
It ended up looking really pretty! I put some artificial snow inside it too....just because I bought a TON of that stuff last year on clearance, and it actually gives it some depth of color. That's my story, and I am sticking to it. I think I will add a silver bow to it before it takes it's place on the tree. Maybe. I may end up sealing with glue and seal or modpodge. But right now it doesn't feel like it actually needs a sealer.
So get your holiday groove on and join us at ABAC!
