He had eyes of the bluest skies...Left of Center Challenge- Smilin' Joe collage

Today at Left of Center we begin a new fortnightly challenge- this time it's Christmas or Creepmas in July- and as usual you can go with the challenge theme and/or use a LOC theme (steampunk, scary, halloween, mythical, fantasy, etc).

We are sponsored by Rick St. Dennis, and the DT got to pick an image to use...and I picked this amazing Smilin' Joe image. I love it- I wanted to do something other than the theme and just go with LOC theme.

I used a piece of  12x12 cardboard from a paper pack.. covered with gesso, then let it dry.  I then used acrylic paint in black, plum, and purple.  I then went with some DecoArt Fierro in graphite on one side and bottom and here and there- its like a sparkly sandy paste.  I combed it around with a texture tool, then added some more paint here and there.

I wanted to include the lyrics of Sweet Child o Mine- so I layered them over a background from Deviant Scraps- and then added a ghost element as well.  I then printed it out and used Glue and Seal to adhere it to the surface. I smudged it with Distress inks and grunged it up a bit.  I had colored with copics and cut out the image, and added it to the corner. I used some Tim Holtz tissue tape around the lyrics, then  I then added some ribbon I had in my stash on one side for more texture and a couple of printed sentiments/titles.

So that's it for me!  I think I will cover the back with paper and abandon this in the goth/artsy section of the city.  It was a lot of fun to make, and it will fit in any scrapbook page frame.

So come on and join in at Left of Center where you can enter your "regular" projects as well as you "darker" ones...we welcome it all!
